Tutorials - HTML - Lesson 1
There's no such thing as being able to build a website in 8 steps is
there? Oh but there is! They may be long steps but it can be done! Just
follow the examples set below and you'll be on the Internet quicker that
you can say "fandabbidozi".
Step 1 - The Basics
| >> |
Firstly, make sure you have
something to build your website with. That means you need either
notepad (yes! It can be that simple) or something more complicated
like FrontPage or Dreamweaver. Have a look at Downloads.com
for other programs, some may even be free! If you want images on
your site then Windows own Paint will do or you could splash out
on a package such as PaintShop Pro or PhotoShop |
| >> |
Secondly, find somewhere to host it (i.e. so people can access
your site on the web). There are many different options here, you
can have hosting with or without domain names, with or without
banners. I'm assuming you want something nice and simple so try Netfirms
or Brinkster
to begin with. Depending on the type of hosting package you have
you may need some FTP software to upload your pages when
completed, again check out Downloads.com.
FTP works like Windows Explorer, you just drag the files you want
to go on your website over to the appropriate folder and then they
appear as if by magic on the Internet. If you go with someone like
Brinkster
on their free package they have an online version of FTP which is
easy to use
|
| >> |
Thirdly you have to have an idea of
what you want the site to be for. Is it going to be a site
dedicated to a TV show, Singer, A family Album? When you have
decided, get together as much content as you can as that'll help
you decide on what sections to put in your site |
A typical website Page will have the following general components, not
necessarily all on the same page:
| >> |
A page title |
| >> |
Page Content |
| >> |
Contact Information |
| >> |
Images |
Right, so you've got your content, thought about your sections and have
a host for the site when it's finished? Great! Let's move onto Step
